At the request of the City Office of Kraków the research examining the effect of World Youth Day on the city’s economy was conducted. In 2016, the capital of Małopolska welcomed 12 million visitors who spent as overall of PLN 5.48 billion there. The share of tourism in the GDP of the city amounted to over 8% in 2016. World Youth Day was an event which brought about 1.5 million tourists to Kraków and over 12.7 million zloty to the city budget. The Kraków city authorities have announced plans to broaden the tourist offer in the sphere of culture and art, and promote the health and beauty service sector.
