Situated just above the mouth of the Douro River into the vast Atlantic, branching over an area of more than 40 kilometres and with a population of over 1.5 million, the city may at frst glance seem like a large metropolis. However, it resonates with inexhaustible peace and it gives the impression that time stopped here several hundred years ago. We are going for a photographic walk around Porto – a haven for tourists visiting it.
One of the flagships of the city is Ribeira, a district of the historic Old Town that is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The multicolored mosaic of buildings is impressive both day and night.
Casa da Música is the most modern concert hall in all of Portugal. The remarkable and highly geometric design of the opera house was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. The building has twelve storeys and its façade is made of white concrete. The main concert hall can seat 1 300 people. Shops, cafés and restaurants are also available for visiting guests.
